Even its lighting won the Danish Lighting Award in 2011. The waterfront is located in front of the medieval city, fromwhere the fiord meanders quietly through the town.
At the Aalborg harbour you can admire great modern architecture such as the Utzon Center and the new building Musikkens Hus (House of Music), which was designed by the world-renowned architectural firm Coop Himmelb(l)au. You can also visit the old coal-fired power plant, Nord Kraft, which has been rebuilt and today stands as one of Europe's largest and most impressive cultural centers.
Every year Musikken Hus Music organises an opera festival in March with the slogan "the whole town sings". Aalborg Operafestival is committed to bringing outstanding quality opera to everbody. Therefore the festival presents everything from children performances to chamber opera and major performances for the classic opera audience. Performances take place in unconventional places such as the city's factories, canteens and the shopping streets.
