Gothenburg is Sweden's second largest city and Scandinavia's largest sea port. Many large Swedish companies are located here and Gothenburg airport is only 25 km from the city center. You can catch a bus to Gothenburg Central Station every 15 minutes during rush hour and two-three times per hour throughout the rest of the day.

Gothenburg was founded in 1621. The original planners were Dutch, and this is very clear when you see the city's canals. Gothenburg's rich maritime history is also reflected in its many historic buildings.

As well as a commercial hub, Gothenburg is  a great place to visit for tourists too and is easy to exploreon foot or by tram and bus. Gothenburg offers beautiful nature and has a rich cultural heritage, as well as a variety of department stores, small specialty shops, galleries, quaint tea rooms and cafes. The city is often host to major events such as concerts, sports and festivals., in addition to other sights, experience and of course, fantastic shopping.

Thrill-seekers and families will love Liseberg, Gothenburg’s largest amusement park, which also holds a number of. children's activities from April to October and around Christmas. Find out more.

The Haga district is close to the old bastions around the city and among Gothenburg's oldest neighbourhoods, dating back to the mid-1700s. The area, which in the 1970s was a worn-out working-class neighborhood, is now an idyllic community with beautiful houses. Enjoy a stroll down the Haga Nygata shopping street, where there are many specialty shops, cafes and restaurants. In the east, the Haga leads up to Vasastaden, and in the west to Linnéstaden - both are charming commercial streets with good restaurants and small shops.

GöteborgsOperan overlooks Göta Älv and offers a large variety of operas, ballets, operettas and musicals.

Just a 10 minute drive from Gothenburg city centre is the neoclassical palace Gunnebo, where you can get a glimpse of how the upper-class lived in the 1700s Sweden. The palace has beautifully landscaped gardens, a scenic park, a café and restaurant and it’s worth taking a guided tour to get the most out of your visit. Gunnebo is open all year round, but is especially charming at Christmas time when it becomes home to a traditional Christmas market.

On an island in the archipelago at the mouth of Gota Älv just outside of Gothenburg lies the fortress Elfsborg (Älvsborg). Between 1500 and1600 the fortress was a battlefield in several of the conflicts between the Nordic countries. There are guided boat trips out to the fortress island.

If you’d like to see more of the Swedish archipelago, there are more than 100 small islands, islets and rocks to explore on foot, by bike or even kayak. The larger islands have restaurants, accommodation, beaches and great hiking trails. It takes 10-30 minutes to sail to the islands by passenger boat from Gothenburg.
